Charges dropped against Minn. smoke shop owner
Charges have been dropped against the owner of a Moorhead smoke shop accused of violating a new state law banning synthetic marijuana.
Judge Lisa Borgen approved an agreement that drops charges against Pyromaniacs owner Yassin Wazwaz. In return, Wazwaz agreed not to sell synthetic marijuana for one year.
Wazwaz was charged last July with two misdemeanor counts of possessing with intent to distribute and two gross misdemeanor counts of selling fake pot. If the deal is broken, the charges would be reinstated.
Assistant Clay County Attorney Matt Greenley tells KFGO-AM the law is vague, and it would have been risky to go to trial.
Defense attorney Marc Kurzman says Wazwaz is satisfied with the agreement, but he says it's unfortunate his client has spent thousands of dollars to defend himself. (Copyright 2011 by The Associated Press. All Rights Reserved.)
