6 Retired Hillsboro, N.D., businessman Rick Nelson, 65, says it's time for locked out union workers and American Crystal Sugar Company to come to an agreement. The situation -- now in its fifth month -- is particularly difficult for smaller communities like Hillsboro and Drayton where the largest employer is American Crystal. 7 St. Paul firefighters said the Pledge of Allegiance before the City Council approved its 2012 budget Wednesday, Dec. 14, 2011. The local union wants to preserve a rescue squad that its chief has recommended decommissioning. Against Mayor Chris Coleman's suggestions, the council restored funding for the rescue squad. 
8 About 300 people left from the Hennepin County Government center in downtown Minneapolis on a silent walk to Simpson United Methodist Church, Thursday, Dec. 15, 2011, to remember the people who died this year while homeless.
