I-94 crash in St. Paul kills 1, injures 2

A crash on Interstate 94 in St. Paul killed at least one person, left two in critical condition and closed the freeway for a time overnight.

The crash happened just before 11 p.m. Sunday. The State Patrol said that a car westbound on the I-94 near Lexington Parkway merged into the path of a westbound pickup truck, causing the truck to roll over on the freeway. The truck came to a rest on the shoulder and left lane of the interstate.

The driver of the car and a third person stepped out onto the freeway to help the pickup truck's driver. That's when a minivan heading west hit both pedestrians and the truck. The driver of the car was killed by the impact. The other pedestrian, as well as the pickup truck's driver are listed in critical condition.

A 20-year-old White Bear Lake woman riding in the pickup truck escaped injury. The driver of the minivan, a 62-year-old Minneapolis man, was also hurt, but didn't suffer life-threatening injury.
