Funeral set for slain Lake City police officer

LAKE CITY, Minn. (AP) -- A funeral is scheduled for slain Lake City police Officer Shawn Schneider.

Schneider's funeral will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. at First Lutheran Church in Lake City.

Visitation will be held at the church on Friday from 4-8 p.m. and one hour before the funeral. Burial will be in Lakewood Cemetery.

Schneider died Friday at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester, 11 days after he was shot in the head while responding to a domestic dispute. Authorities say the shooting suspect -- 25-year-old Alan Sylte Jr. of Hager City, Wis. -- then committed suicide.

The 32-year-old officer leaves a wife and three children.

Memorial contributions may be sent to the Officer Shawn Schneider Fund at Alliance Bank, care of Kathy Moyer, 105 E. Lyon Ave., Lake City MN 55041.
