Man who was dragged by car is in serious condition

A man who was dragged by a vehicle when he tried to stop a friend from driving is in serious condition at Regions Hospital in St. Paul.

Kyle Kissinger, 24, and a group of friends were at the Commercial Club early Friday morning when the suspect told his friends he was going to drive home after drinking, said Lt. Brian Sturgeon of the West St. Paul Police Department.

"Then the victim, you know, used a little bit of force to try to stop him from driving and then somehow got hung up on the vehicle," Sturgeon said. "Everybody appeared to know each other, and it was quite chaotic because there were a number of witnesses down at the scene."

Police say Kissinger, an Army veteran, suffered severe brain trauma when he was dragged nearly two blocks.

The unidentified suspect, also age 24, was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving and criminal vehicular operation. He was released from the Dakota County Jail on Sunday after posting $75,000 bail. Charges are expected to be filed on Monday.

A fund has been set up in Kissinger's name to help defray expenses.. Donations may be made at Anchor Bank in St. Paul or calling the bank at 651-457-1111. Army veteran
