Minn. father accused of beating son with wooden boards

An Albert Lea father is accused of beating his 11-year-old son with wooden boards.

The boy told investigators his father, Monte Joe Santee, most recently beat him Saturday for failing to fold a pair of his mother's pants. The Albert Lea Tribune reports Santee told a Freeborn County sheriff's official he beat his son almost on a weekly basis because his son is "difficult to deal with."

The 46-year-old father appeared in court Wednesday where bail was set at $6,000. He's charged with malicious punishment of a child.

Santee has been a city parks employee since 2007.
