The biggest solar storm in years broke out on the solar surface. It probably won't be dangerous for us, says astronomer Bob Berman.

It produced widespread auroras last night. It's one more sign that the newest solar cycle is coming back with a vengeance as we head toward "Solar Max" next year, whose consequences for earthly life are varied and exciting.
