A California federal appeals court struck down the state's voter-approved ban on same-sex marriage, but that decision won't prevent Minnesotans from voting on a similar initiative in the fall. Voters in many states will be considering a host of ballot initiatives this year. Midmorning looks at why states are increasingly turning to direct democracy.
