Postal Service reshuffles Minn mail processing
The U.S. Postal Service says more than 200 Minnesota employees will be affected by its consolidation of mail processing operations as it deals with a ballooning deficit.
The Postal Service said Thursday it will move processing from Duluth and Rochester to St. Paul and processing operations in St. Cloud, Mankato and Bemidji to Minneapolis. Retail operations will remain open.
Postal Service spokesman Pete Nowacki says about 230 positions will be affected in Minnesota and attempts will be made to reassign employees to vacant positions or other facilities.
Specific dates for the consolidations have not been announced, although a moratorium on closures ends in mid-May.
The Postal Service has previously said 252 processing sites might be closed as mail volume declines. The Postal Service's most recent quarterly loss was $3.3 billion.
