106-year-old barge sinks in Duluth harbor

Workers are trying to recover a 1,000-gallon propane tank from a barge that sank in the Duluth harbor.

Coast Guard Petty Officer First Class Lauren Jorgensen says the tank is nearly full of propane. The Coast Guard is working with salvage companies to get the tank off the sunken 120-foot-long barge which sank in a harbor slip Thursday. The Coast Guard says it doesn't know why the barge went down.

The Duluth News Tribune says the barge is owned by Duluth Timber Co. Jorgensen says the 106-year-old barge will have to be removed if it's a navigation hazard or causes pollution.
