MSP customs lines could get shorter -- for some
Some international travelers at the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport have a new option for faster clearance through customs.
Travelers the government considers low security risks who pay a $100 fee can opt into what's called the Global Entry Trusted Traveler Program — an express lane through customs that's good for five years.
David Murphy with U.S. Customs Border and Protection said 24 airports now offer the service.
"Individuals approved to participate in the Global Entry will not have to wait in lines," Murphy said. "They will be able to use these kiosks in designated airports and bypass the regular passport control lanes and to enter the United States without the routine customs and border questioning."
Twin Cities passengers must apply online, and then make an appointment at the airport to complete the process. Appointments are already booked into April.
