Greenfield girl going to national spelling bee

A homeschooled 12-year-old from Greenfield will represent Minnesota at the national spelling bee in Washington, D.C. in May.

Elise Stahl correctly spelled "remand" "pickelhaube," "idiopathic" and "pharmacology," on Saturday to win the seven-county Twin Cities-area regional spelling bee.

She will move onto the Scripps National Spelling Bee, which runs from May 27 through June 1.

The St. Paul Pioneer Press reports the seventh grader won in front of a capacity crowd at the 3M Auditorium at the Minnesota History Center in St. Paul.
