Wis. teen gets probation for abandoning baby

APPLETON, Wis. (AP) -- A Wisconsin teenager has accepted a plea deal for abandoning his newborn daughter by a church trash bin last year.

Benjamin LaMarche pleaded guilty Tuesday to abandoning the baby in Kimberly last May. LaMarche admitted he left the baby after his girlfriend, Nadia Zahirudin of Appleton, gave birth.

WLUK-TV reports LaMarche told the Outagamie County court he was ``extremely sorry.''

Under the plea, LaMarche receives a three-year deferred prosecution agreement, meaning he won't go to jail if he complies with terms of the deal. He must serve three years of probation and complete 60 hours of community service. If LaMarche completes the plea deal and another 30 hours of community service, he can ask for his record to be cleared.
