Authorities ID trucker killed in train collision

Authorities have released the name of a truck driver killed in a collision with a freight train near Plummer in northwestern Minnesota.

The Grand Forks Herald reports 65-year-old Dale Buzzell of Isanti was driving on U.S. Highway 59 when his truck collided with a Canadian Pacific Railway train early Saturday.

The Minnesota State Patrol says Buzzell died at the scene.

The crash derailed several of the train cars. One of the cars started leaking bunker oil, a heavy, thick fuel used aboard ships.

Because of the oil leakage, residents within a one-mile radius of the crash site were evacuated about 8 a.m. Saturday as a precaution. The evacuation order was lifted about two hours later.

Plummer is in Red Lake County southeast of Thief River Falls.
