New Ulm wrestler Ali Bernard fell short in her attempt to return to the Olympics this summer.

Bernard, 26, lost in Saturday's finals to Stephany Lee, 27, of Hawaii in the 72 kilogram division, about 160 pounds. Bernard placed fifth in that division at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, and last fall placed third in the world tournament. The finals at Iowa City Saturday saw Bernard and Lee wrestle a best of three matches contest. Lee took the opening two matches by decision over Bernard to make the Olympic team. Bernard was seeded first in her division going into the tryouts.

Bernard wrestled on the New Ulm boys team in high school and then continued her career while attending college in Canada.
