Police: Child's death was homicide

The Hennepin County Medical Examiner has ruled that the death of a St. Bonifacius child in February was a homicide.

Nineteen-month-old Cottrell Short was pronounced dead at Ridgeview Medical Center in Waconia on Feb. 10.

The medical examiner report said the child died of abdominal and head injuries. He also had numerous fractured bones.

No one has been arrested for Cottrell Short's death. His mother, Shacara Tennell Foster, 27, was charged last month with felony neglect. Foster is currently being held at Hennepin County Jail, according to a statement from the Hennepin County Sheriff's Office.

Minnetrista Police, the Hennepin County Sheriff's Office and the Hennepin County Attorney's Office are investigating.
