Student dies after collapse in basketball game

A student at Robbinsdale Cooper High School died Thursday after collapsing while playing basketball at the Northwest YMCA in New Hope.

Kalonyea Wopea, 17, was a junior at the high school.

Robbinsdale Area Schools spokesperson Tia Clasen said grief counselors were made available to students at the school on Friday. She said the district also sent out grief counseling information to parents of Robbinsdale Cooper High School students.

"It's just going to be the school coming to grips with this and trying to provide as much counseling as the students need in the next days and weeks," Clasen said. "Oftentimes, when something like this happens so unexpected, the shock is initial, and then later on, a lot of the real emotion sinks in."
