Funeral set for fallen Minn. soldier

ROCHESTER, Minn. (AP) -- A funeral is set for a southeastern Minnesota soldier killed in Afghanistan.

Services for 23-year-old Army Sgt. Nicholas Dickhut will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Rochester. Burial will be at Grandview Memorial Gardens.

A long line of emergency vehicles and motorcycles accompanied Dickhut's body to Rochester Sunday. The Post-Bulletin reports people stopped and waved flags or removed their caps as the motorcade passed by.

The U.S. Department of Defense says Dickhut died April 30 from wounds suffered when enemy forces attacked his unit with small arms fire.

Dickhut was a Joint Base Lewis-McChord soldier. He was a member of the 3rd Stryker Brigade that deployed in December and was attached to the 82nd Airborne Division as a forward observer.
