Woman arrested in Minn. animal shelter vandalism

Police have arrested a Brainerd woman after an animal rescue shelter was vandalized and its dogs released.

Baxter Police Chief Jim Exsted says the 24-year-old woman was arrested Tuesday at a Brainerd home. A missing dog that had been impounded at Heartland Animal Rescue Team also was found at the home.

The Brainerd Dispatch reports the shelter was vandalized around 1 a.m. Tuesday and the words "Killers" and "U Kill" were spray-painted on the building.

Police say the suspect released all the dogs that were in the impound area of the shelter. All but one of the dogs were captured by police and shelter staff.

The woman is in jail, and charges of burglary and property damage are pending.
