Toddler bitten in face by 170-pound dog

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) -- A toddler is hospitalized after she was bitten on the face by a 170-pound dog at a St. Paul home.

The 18-month-old girl was taken to Regions Hospital. Her condition is not known. Police say the child may have a punctured eye. The mastiff dog was taken by animal control officers. Family members asked that the dog be put down.

The St. Paul Pioneer Press says the dog belonged to the girl's grandparent.
