The mother of a Benilde St. Margaret High School hockey player paralyzed in a state hockey tournament says he's showing some signs of improvement.

Jack Jablonksi's neck was broken Dec. 30 when he was checked into the boards and hit his head. His injury left him a quadraplegic, and doctors said they expected little improvement in his condition.

But Jablonski's Twitter account said last night that he moved his left middle finger and his left leg and ankle. The message called the development a big day, and also included a phone call from hockey great Bobby Orr.

Jablonski's family also wrote about the movement on his Caring Bridge site. They said he was undergoing an assessment at the Courage Center, and was starting a new therapy there, involving a treadmill.

Jablonski has been in long-term rehabilitation, and was hospitalized again earlier this month.
