I-94 school bus crash: No kids involved

The Minnesota State Patrol says that a woman was killed and five other people were injured in a four-vehicle crash in St. Paul Wednesday that included a school bus.

Patrol spokesman Lt. Eric Roeske said the accident happened about 9:30 a.m. Traffic had slowed on westbound I-94 as it approached the Highway 280 onramp. Roeske said a car, an SUV and a minivan were in the right lane, and had slowed to about 15 mph.

"A bus approached from behind them at what was described as freeway speeds, braked, was not able to stop in time and crashed into the minivan. Tragically, the far right passenger in the minivan was killed," Roeske said.

The State Patrol identified the passenger as Nang Nguyen, 75, of Roseville.

Five other people in the minivan were taken to area hospitals, and the SUV was flipped onto its side when the minivan crashed into it. There were no children on the bus at the time of the accident.

The St. Paul school district said it was a contract bus that had been carrying children from the district earlier in the morning, but was on the way back to the terminal when the accident happened. A schools spokeswoman says district officials didn't know what route the bus had been servicing before the accident happened.
