Surly Brewing Co. has narrowed the location of its new brewery to a "handful" of Twin Cities-area sites.

Two of the locations are in Minneapolis, the company said today. One site is near the University of Minnesota campus, the other in the Harrison neighborhood of Near North.

The other possible sites are in Brooklyn Center and an unnamed "inner suburban" location.

Surly indicated the final decision is probably still months away.

The "Surly Bill" passed the state Legislature in 2011. While the new law has allowed small breweries like Harriet, Fulton and Lift Bridge to open taprooms, Surly is taking more time as it whittles down possible sites from an original list of 80.
