Gophers get new AD Teague's top assistant from VCU

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) -- The University of Minnesota has named David Benedict as the executive associate athletic director.

The hiring was announced Friday.

Benedict worked with new Gophers athletic director Norwood Teague at Virginia Commonwealth University, where he has been the interim AD since Teague officially left for Minnesota this spring. He previously held the same title at VCU he'll have with the Gophers. Benedict has significant fundraising experience, having previously headed VCU's athletic development operations and also for businesses and universities in Arizona and California.

He played football at Southern Utah University and earned a master's degree in sports management at New Mexico Highlands University.
