Minn. Zoo has best-ever attendance

The Minnesota Zoo says it had more visitors in the last year than any other time in its history.

The fiscal year ended on June 30 for the zoo located in Apple Valley. It announced Monday that attendance during that time fell just short of 1.4 million people, the most in its 34-year history.

Zoo officials say a new penguin exhibit that opened last summer attracted large numbers. Its summer exhibit, "Dinosaurs!," also attracted large crowds. The zoo is opening a new black bear exhibit this falls.

The Minnesota Zoo says its attendance gains track with similar increases at zoos around the country in the last year.
