ND home supply stores lure Canadians

GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) -- Home improvement retailers in Grand Forks increasingly are catering to Canadians as shoppers are coming over the border seeking bargains.

The Grand Forks Herald reports that he demand for home improvement goods is based in part on prices, which are usually lower in the United States because of Canada's higher tax rates. But it also is based on the selection of retailers and a building boom in Manitoba.

Manitoba Home Builders' Association.president Mike Moore says home construction in Winnipeg last year was the highest in 25 years. He says it's poised to set another record this year.
