Airport worker charged with drunken driving

Authorities at the Minneapolis St. Paul International Airport say an airport worker has been charged with drunk driving after he steered into the path of a jet pushing back from a terminal gate.

Metropolitan Aiports Commission spokeswoman Melissa Scovronski said the incident happened late Thursday night in the airport operations area behind Terminal 2, formerly known as the Humphrey Terminal.

The 54-year-old Inver Grove Heights man works for a ground services company, and an Air Tran supervisor saw the incident and reported it to police, she said.

"The police determined that they needed to go find the person, and when they did find the person they smelled alcohol on his breath and ended up giving him a field sobriety test and ended up arresting him as well for DWI and failure to yield to an aircraft," Scovronski said.

The initial test indicated the man had a blood alcohol level of more than 0.2 percent when police stopped him.
