Prosecutors in Cass County say a Pine River man killed an acquaintance as the victim begged him to stop his attack, then buried the man's body and burned his clothes.
Twenty-eight-year-old Dane Riley is charged with second-degree intentional homicide and interfering with a corpse. Mark Huesman's remains were found in a shallow grave in rural Pine River on July 24. He had been reported missing a day before. A criminal complaint says Riley picked up Huesman at a house on July 14 and they went to Riley's residence.
The complaint says a woman staying at Riley's trailer house told investigators she woke to the sound of gunshots, went outside and saw Riley hitting Huesman and could hear Huesman begging Riley to stop.
The Brainerd Dispatch reports Riley is being held on $1 million unconditional bail or $750,000 with conditions.
