600 Mpls. schools workers move to new digs
Almost 600 employees with the Minneapolis school district are in the process of moving into their new $41 million headquarters on the north side of Minneapolis.
Most of the workers had been in an aging building that once served as a light bulb factory in northeast Minneapolis. But Minneapolis Public Schools spokesman Stan Alleyne said the headquarters staff had been spread across four different buildings around the city.
"It's very convenient and efficient for our employees because when you're in four places and you have meetings in different buildings every week, it's a waste of resources," Alleyne said. "We feel like we're solving that problem by moving into this building."
Alleyne said district officials hope consolidating staff in the five-story, 153,000 square foot building will also bring more development to a part of Minneapolis that's economically challenged.
"We're here and we have a lots of people and people who are hardworking and a part of the community," Alleyne said. "It can only help in the development."
