Forum aims to counter mortgage scams

Homeowners struggling to make mortgage payments can find resources at a town hall forum Wednesday night in Minneapolis, where the Minnesota Department of Commerce and Congressman Keith Ellison will present information on predatory lending.

People can also learn about foreclosure alternatives and helpful state resources.

"There are resources available to consumers in the state of Minnesota that are free of charge. They should never have to pay for help if they're struggling with their mortgage," said Ed Nelson, the Marketing and Communications Manager for the Minnesota Homeowners Association.

Thousands of Minnesotans are struggling with mortgage payments, and Nelson encourages people to ask questions and learn to avoid falling victim to scams.
