Workers find pipe bomb on Sturgis highway

BELLE FOURCHE, S.D. (AP) -- State workers in western South Dakota found a pipe bomb on a highway that is a popular route for motorcyclists at the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally who want to visit tourist attractions in Wyoming.

Butte County Sheriff Fred Lamphere says the homemade bomb was about the size of a beverage bottle and had a fuse at the end of it. Highway workers found it Monday on state Highway 34 near Belle Fourche.

State and federal agents were called in to take the bomb to a safe area and detonate it. Lamphere tells the Rapid City Journal that authorities have no suspects.
