Bomb threat causes brief Mpls. evacuation

Minneapolis police briefly evacuated a downtown building after a bomb threat at a bank. A suspect is in custody.

Minneapolis Police Inspector E.M. Frizell says a male in his mid-20s entered the M&I Bank on Nicollet Mall at about 12:30 p.m. and indicated he had a bomb and a gun. Police evacuated the bank and surrounding parts of Gaviidae Common, a downtown shopping establishment.

Frizell says the suspect quickly surrendered peacefully. Frizell but would not immediately reveal whether he had an explosive device or other weapons.

No one was hurt in the incident. Police did not immediately know how many people had been evacuated.

Frizell says the suspect, who has not been identified, had first stopped at WCCO-TV offices nearby seeking to file some type of complaint but was turned away.
