Penumbra Theater is facing more financial trouble. The nationally acclaimed African-American theater company will stage no shows this season and has laid off 1/3 of its 16 full-time staff members.

Lou Bellamy founded the Penumbra back in 1976 and is the current artistic director. He says the theater's budget problems have been building since the middle of the summer. MPR's Cathy Wurzer speaks with Mr. Bellamy about the Penumbra's financial problems.
