Food trucks set up near Metrodome

The Minnesota Vikings take on the San Francisco 49ers at the Metrodome at noon Sunday.

The city of Minneapolis has set up a new attraction for fans looking for different food choices. The city has set aside space for 16 food trucks along Fifth Street near the dome.

City officials are calling the stretch of street the Purple Path. Mayor R.T. Rybak says he understands the food trucks will be competing for business with downtown bars and restaurants and concessions in the Metrodome, adding that the key is to find a good business balance.

"We have existing businesses in downtown," he said. "What we hope to do here is bake a bigger pie here -- bring a lot more folks in so there's plenty of business for everyone. But we're going to have to look at that balance all the way through this."

Rybak says the plan is to bring the food trucks back for the rest of this season's home games.
