Two shootings, a day apart, in St. Paul

St. Paul police are investigating two shootings in as many days on the city's east side. Police say a man was shot and wounded Monday night in the Dayton's Bluff neighborhood.

The shooting happened just blocks from where a young woman was fatally shot on Sunday. The second shooting also occurred just after a neighborhood vigil in the woman's honor.

Authorities say the man shot Monday, whose identity has not been released, is in stable condition at Regions Hospital. It's not clear whether the two shootings are related.

Deanna Foster, executive director of the Dayton's Bluff Community Council, said more needs to be done to prevent young people from getting involved in gang activity or other violence.

"A lot of people in the community are saying we must come together and figure out how to join together and do something about this in our community, because it's hurting everyone," said Foster.

The Dayton's Bluff Community Council is organizing an anti-violence door-knocking event Tuesday beginning at 5:30 p.m.
