Homicide suspect shot by cop in Stearns Co.

The Stearns County sheriff's office said a deputy shot and wounded an armed man suspected of homicide early Sunday.

A statement released by the sheriff's office said a gunman shot another man just after 4 a.m. Sunday on a stretch of Rockville's main thoroughfare. The suspect fled on foot.

The victim, 30-year-old Jeffrey Schutz of Rockville, later died. Law enforcement officers were searching the area when someone reported seeing the suspect in the laundry room of a nearby four-unit apartment building.

Officers surrounded the building and were about to go in when the armed suspect came out a back entrance. The sheriff's office statement said that "verbal commands were given and the suspect was wounded by gunfire."
