Black Friday sales encroach earlier on Thanksgiving

Target will apparently join other retailers in letting shoppers get an even earlier crack at Black Friday bargains. But Best Buy will stick with the same opening hours as last year.

What appear to be copies of Target's Black Friday ad are popping up on the Internet. The ad indicates Target stores will greet customers at 9 p.m. Thanksgiving Day.

A Target spokesman would not confirm or deny the ad's authenticity or discuss store hours. Meanwhile, Best Buy will open its stores at midnight as Thanksgiving Day ends and Black Friday begins.

"Midnight is the time that our customers have told us they want to shop," said Amy von Walter, a Best Buy spokeswoman. "So rather than getting up in the wee hours of the morning, they prefer to stay up late and get a head start on that holiday shopping list."

Walmart's Black Friday specials start at 8 p.m. on Thanksgiving. And most Walmart stores will open that morning.

Macy's and Kohl's plan midnight openings. Sears stores will open at 8 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day, while Kmart stores will be ready for shoppers at 6 a.m. Thanksgiving morning.
