Teamsters Local 120 officials removed amid investigation of 'impropriety'

Two top Teamsters Union officials in Minnesota are under investigation for financial impropriety.

Teamsters Local 120 was placed into trusteeship Tuesday morning by Teamsters International Union President James Hoffa. Secretary Treasurer Brad Slawson and President Brad Slawson, Jr. were removed from office, a union official said.

An independent review board spent several months investigating Local 120, said Bret Caldwell, Teamsters communications director. Local 120 will remain under trusteeship until the investigation is completed.

"The only allegations we can outline are that they are essentially financial improprieties and that we've got to determine the validity of those," Caldwell said.

Teamsters Local 120 is based in Blaine and has about 10,000 members in Minnesota, Iowa, South Dakota and North Dakota.

Caldwell said the independent review board will decide if the investigation should be turned over to federal law enforcement authorities.
