A police brutality lawsuit and a personal injury claim were settled Friday.
The Minneapolis City Council agreed to pay $85,000, including attorney's fees, to Mauricio McKinney, who claims he was kicked in the face by an officer last year.
According to his complaint, McKinney was on the floor complying with an officers' orders when he was kicked multiple times. He was knocked unconscious and required stitches to the outside and inside of his mouth. City attorneys said the settlement is not an admission of guilt by officers.
The city also agreed to pay $150,000 to Robert Skarsten. City officials say Skarsten was riding his bike over a plywood board covering a section of sidewalk under repair. The board shifted, causing Skarsten to flip over his handlebars. City officials said Skarsten suffered significant injuries from the fall.
