Minneapolis man charged in fatal I-94 crash
A Minneapolis man was charged Wednesday in a car accident that killed one and injured two others on Interstate 94 last year. A blood test showed him over the legal blood alcohol limit for driving.
Eugene Michael Farrell, 63, of Minneapolis, faces two counts of criminal vehicular homicide and four counts of criminal vehicular operation, according to the criminal complaint filed in Ramsey County District Court.
Marcus P. Andary, 21, of Sault Ste. Marie, Mich. died in the accident. Alicia Kaufenberg, 23, of St. Paul, and Keith Barnes, 38, of Minneapolis, were both injured.
The accident occurred on Dec. 18, 2011 near Lexington Parkway on westbound Interstate 94. Just before 11 p.m. that day, a Chevrolet Impala driven by Kaufenberg had rolled onto its roof on the left side of the interstate after a collision with another car.

The driver of one of the cars involved in the initial accident, Andary, pulled over on the right side of the interstate and ran across the lanes of traffic to help Kaufenberg in the Impala. Another driver, Barnes, also pulled over to help.
Farrell, driving a van in the left lane, collided with the Impala, directly or indirectly striking all three people at the scene, according to the complaint. The three were each thrown a "long distance." Andary was then run over by another car.
The complaint states that Farrell, driving a van, did not slow down or swerve to avoid the Impala until right before the accident, and that he was driving over the speed limit.
A blood test following the incident found that Farrell had a blood alcohol level of .09, which is above the legal limit to drive in Minnesota.
A warrant has been issued for Farrell's arrest.
