Freezing rain hampers morning commute

Freezing rain is making for difficult driving around Minnesota, particularly in the north central part of the state this morning.

MnDOT says that the roads are in hazardous driving condition from International Falls to Roseau, down to Park Rapids and over to Grand Rapids, and are in difficult driving condition for most of the Arrowhead and the Iron Range, as well.

Schools are closed in Duluth, Grand Rapids, Fergus Falls and Staples-Motley, among other places this morning. Dozens of other districts, from Bemidji to Hinkley are starting school two hours late because of the road conditions.

The National Weather Service has issued an ice storm warning for all or parts of nine different counties in north central Minnesota. There's also a blizzard warning for the Red River Valley through Saturday morning.

The icy conditions stretch all the way into the Twin Cities, where streets and sidewalks may be slippery, although roads are listed in good driving condition.
