Minneapolis Beek's Pizza damaged by fire

Officials with the Minneapolis Fire Department say one firefighter was injured battling a three-alarm blaze which heavily damaged two south Minneapolis businesses, including a popular pizza joint.

The unnamed firefighter was injured in a fall and was treated at Hennepin County Medical Center and is reported to be in stable condition. Besides heavy smoke and flames, firefighters also had to deal with subzero temperatures and ice.

The building along Lyndale Avenue S. near 54th Street was the home of Diamond Lake Rentals and Beek's Pizza. A Kowalski's grocery store and a Starbucks cafe sit across Lyndale from the burned structure.

None of the building occupants were injured and they were outside the building by the time fire crews arrived.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
