Slain Cold Spring officer's partner resigns

The part-time officer who was working with a Cold Spring police officer when he was killed has resigned.

Cold Spring-Richmond Police Chief Phil Jones tells the St. Cloud Times that Greg Reiter submitted his resignation Jan. 10. He says Reiter is returning to his other job of hanging drywall.

Reiter was with Officer Thomas Decker on Nov. 29 when Decker was shot behind a Cold Spring bar. Reports have said Reiter backed away from the scene and lost sight of the shooter. Decker's killing remains unsolved.

Jones says people jumped to conclusions without the facts, and that didn't contribute to a healthy environment for Reiter.

Reiter had been on paid leave since the shooting.

Jones called Reiter a great officer with no disciplinary record.

Reiter's phone rang unanswered Thursday.
