Early trout season beginning in Wisconsin

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (AP) -- Here's a sure sign of spring -- Wisconsin's early trout season is only a little more than a week off.

The season runs from 5 a.m. March 2 until midnight on April 27. Participants will need a state fishing license and an inland trout stamp.

State Department of Natural Resources officials say the best time to fish will be in the afternoons, when water temperatures are higher. They say wooly bugger and scud flies are good choices for fishing deeper when there's no surface activity.

The DNR has posted maps of trout waters and public access points on its website.
