Bill would make college more affordable for students illegally in Minnesota

Minnesota state lawmakers are considering extending Minnesota's resident tuition rates for public colleges to students who lack legal resident status.. The bill would also make it easier for them to get financial aid.

This legislation comes less than a year after the start of the Obama administration's Deferred Action program, which offers two-year work visas to young people who were brought to the country illegally by their parents.

In January, Gov. Mark Dayton added $1.2 million per year in state grant money for those Minnesota students covered by Deferred Action.

Sen. Sandy Pappas, who has worked on this effort for years in the Legislature, joins The Daily Circuit to discuss the bill.
