Best Buy expands perks for loyal customers

Some of Best Buy's most loyal customers will be getting increased benefits from the retailer.

The boost in perks goes to consumers who hold credit cards tied to Best Buy's Reward Zone program. Currently, for every $100 these customers spend with the retailer, they get $4 in points that can be used for future purchases. Starting Sunday, they would get $5.

"Many different retailers offer many different options," said Carly Morris, a spokeswoman for Best Buy. "And this is an amount that we know resonates with our market. Additionally, we just really wanted to reward those customers who are most loyal to Best Buy."

A substantial number of the roughly 40 million customers participating in the Reward Zone program carry the credit cards, Morris said, but the retailer would not specify how many customers use the cards.

Reward Zone members who do not use the credit cards get 2 percent of their purchases back in redeemable points. The points can be used toward purchases from Best Buy's stores and website.
