Spirit adds MSP to Dallas-Forth Worth route

Low-fare Spirit Airlines has added daily nonstop service between the Twin Cites and Dallas-Fort Worth.

Company spokeswoman Mindy Pinson said the airline sees a good opportunity to win over travelers on the route.

"We're looking forward to bringing an ultra-low fare option to that market," Pinson said.

Airport spokesman Patrick Hogan said Spirit's new service is a welcome addition for travelers.

"They launched their original service here last year and now they serve several cities from this market," Hogan said. "While Spirit is isn't for everybody in terms of the services it provides, for people who are looking for a low-cost way to get from point to point, they offer, I think, a good option."

Spirit does charge fees for some things that other airlines do not, however. For instance, the airline charges $25 or more for carry-on bags that do not fit under a seat.

Sun Country, Delta and American airlines also fly to Dallas-Fort Worth nonstop. This will be Spirit's fifth nonstop destination from Minneapolis-St. Paul.
