Emerald ash borer detected in Beloit, Wis.
Wisconsin agriculture officials confirm emerald ash borers have reached Beloit.
Forestry Operations Supervisor Mike Ferger says the city's forestry crew identified the infested tree during a scheduled tree removal.
Rock County already is under a quarantine for emerald ash borer. Wisconsin's quarantine guidelines include all hardwood firewood and ash products such as timber, pallets, mulch and trimmings. Businesses can apply for exemptions.
Emerald ash borer was found for the first time in Wisconsin in August 2008 near Newburg, northeast of West Bend.
Since then, the invasive pest has been confirmed in Brown, Crawford, Kenosha, La Crosse, Milwaukee, Ozaukee, Racine, Rock, Trempealeau, Vernon, Walworth, Washington and Waukesha counties.
The emerald ash borer has destroyed millions of ash trees since being detected in North America.
