Truck crashes on I-94 at Lowry Hill tunnel

The Minnesota State Patrol and tow truck crews have cleared a multi-vehicle crash on the west bound entrance to the Lowry Hill tunnel in downtown Minneapolis Wednesday morning.

The front of a west bound truck jumped the center median in front of the tunnel entrance and slid into oncoming traffic coming out of the tunnel. Two cars were struck, a patrol spokesman said. The rear of the truck stayed in the west bound lanes, with the trailer straddling the divider in the middle of Interstate 94.

No serious injuries were reported, although the two center lanes on both sides of the tunnel are closed by the clean up and recovery.

It's the third time that a truck has jumped the median headed into the eastern entrance of the tunnel in the last two years. A semi carrying scrap car parts overturned, killing the driver in 2011. In Feburary, a milk truck crashed into oncoming traffic eastbound out of the tunnel, spilling milk over the freeway.

The accident was cleared and the tunnel was opened again to traffic at about 9 a.m.
