Minnesota Scenes: Your April

Arts & Culture ·

Riley and Carter Luberda, photographed April 18, in Gilman Minn. by Linda Davis.
On April 3, 2013 the statute on top of the Blue Earth County Courthouse turned to the north by about a quarter turn and dropped its sword into the courthouse lawn. This photo of the repair work was taken on April 5 using a Canon EOS Digital Rebel.
There was a time in April when it wasn't snowing. Remember that? This photo was taken by Keith J. Semmelink on April 12 at Target Field using a Nikon D700. He says it was snowing at the beginning of the game, but it slowly tapered off. (And the Twins lost to the Mets, 16-5.)
Rochester was hit by a freak snowstorm on Wednesday and Thursday, May 1 and 2, 2013.
Darcy Sime took this photo of an opossum checking out rumors of spring in Hayward, Minn., on March 20. She used a Nikon D7000.
Rich Stromwall says he caught this squirrel on camera in Deephaven, Minn., on April 20.
Cheryl Evans submitted this photo of Gustavus Adolphus Lutheran Church in St. Paul, Minnesota, through her frosty car windshield on Sunday, April 14, 2013.
Not every picture's pretty. Clint McMahon writes on Flickr, "There's about three weeks during the spring while the snow melts and the garbage that's been buried all winter is left on the sidewalks before eventually being washed away by the rain. This is the scene outside on of the bars in the North Loop. This photo was taken on March 28 in the North Loop of Minneapolis using a Canon EOS REBEL T4i.
A young Chickadee at the window soliciting sympathy rations from photographer Douglas Fish, who reports the little bird was successful and ended up with a handful of peanuts. Fish says this photo was taken on April 18 in Minnetonka using a Nikon D800e.
Another Douglas Fish submission: Cardinals sharing frustration during a late April snow storm on the morning of April 18 in Minnetonka. Photo was shot using a Nikon D800e.
Kirk Lundmark snapped this photo of his wife, Diane, with the snowgirl they made outside their Champlin home after an April snow storm. "We're skiers and just had to embrace what we thougtht was the last storm," he said.
Ken Greshowak submitted this photo of the "last pieces of winter" float in a calm Duluth Harbor as the lift bridge awaits the departure of the Assinabone, returning to Canada.
Clint McMahon made this black-and-white time exposure of nighttime Minneapolis traffic in the Minneapolis neighborhood of Lowry Hill on April 21 Canon EOS REBEL T4i.
Darcy Sime submitted this photo of wildflowers taken April 28 to our Flickr page. She shot the photo at Myre-Big Island State Park using a Nikon D3200.
We picked this photo by EbbsForce1 out of our Flickr stream even though it wasn't made this year. It's from the Cottage Grove Drive In Theater last summer. We like it because, despite the fact that it's snow on May 3 in St. Paul, we know that the joys of summer must -- must -- be close at hand.
